I was plagued with these when nursing my twins. I could sometimes get it to
"pop" by working the plug of thick milk down and out of the pore opening with
my fingers sliding on the areola. Or sometimes I got a little more vigorous
and would try to wipe it away with a rough washcloth. This often worked well
in the shower. I have told moms to soak their nipple/areola in a basin of
warm water, and then put the baby on to nurse. Sometimes the baby can release
the plug. One lady I worked with went to her OB who took a sterile needle and
opened the blister (on several occasions.) I didn't try changing positions
because I always nursed the babies together in the football hold. Mary-Jane,
