Dear Loni,

Gentamycin has very poor oral absorption (which is why it is always given
IV) and should not be a problem. Both erythromycin and cleocin have been
approved for use in bf mothers by the AAP and are used themselves in the
treatment of newborn infections. Hale does note one case of bloody
stools in a baby where the mom was on gent/cleocin therapy. Would
strongly suggest you get a copy of "Medications and Mothers' Milk" by Tom
Hale, now available in the 1998 ed.
