Beeing an MD I get a lot of referrals from LCs, LLLLs and others when
mothers get wrong advice from their doctors. The LCs, of course, don't tell
the mothers that their doctor is wrong (they're not supposed to, even
though they let the mothers know that they should get another opinion), and
they leave this "pleasure" to me. I find it often very difficult to be
diplomatic, even though I try (for instance - mother with mastitis, told to
take Amoxycillin, and stop nursing immediately, from both breasts, no
pumping mentioned !!!!).
Usually I use the approach that not every doctor can be a specialist in
everything, just like there are probably doctors who know more about
Diabetes than I do, and my speciality is bf. Sometimes I have no choice,
but say outright that the doc is wrong, and I don't feel good doing this -
I think we have to be very careful to respect others.

It made me feel better to read that this happens not only here, and to see
how others deal with this.
