We still haven't had many replys to an earlier post about a client with
persistant hives during lactation. We would very much appreciate any
physicians or specialists input on her situation. To review: very strong
family hx immune system disorders (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, etc), The
mom developed persistant hives and angioedema after introducing solids to
her children at 5-6 months, resulting in several ER visits. We have been
working with her for several weeks (second baby). The symptoms initially
lessened after having the mom drop all solids from the babies diet. The
hives flared up again after the initial improvement. She is now using a
breast pump and providing bm via bottle to elimimate mouth to breast
contact to see if that works. The baby also presents with an unusually bad
case of dark-colored "infant acne" resulting in an absess on his face. She
would prefer to keep nursing, but is extremely tired of the hives and ready
to wean if nothing else works. With her first baby, the hives were totally
gone within three weeks of weaning. Details of the case can be seen in the
archives under the title "Hives and Breastfeeding". Please, someone have
any new ideas or has someone who would be interested in following up this
unusual case? We strongly suspect a multi-focal reaction initiated by
certain foods, complicated with immune system dysfunction. Thanks in
advance.
