You mention that this is her 3rd child maybe she is just extremely exhausted.
What kind of help is this mom getting from family and friends?  That sometimes
I think is the  main reason for "breastfeeding" problems with experience
mothers.  I've noticed that when a mom has other children( specially 3 and+)
they feel very guilty if they sleep while the baby sleeps.
