Christine,

I not replying about blood in stools but rather to the blocked tear duct -
fresh expressed breastmilk is just great for blocked tear ducts and sticky
eye. It can be used for irrigation of the eyes and for wiping and cleaning
the yellow gunk away from the eyelids. Have mum wash her hands well first of
all. Check that she has been shown how to wipe each eye with a separate piece
of cottonwool dipped in ebm from inner corner to outer corner and have baby
tipped so that when irrigating/wiping an eye the detritus does not run into
the other eye. Each piece of cotton wool dipped in ebm should be used for one
wipe across the lids only, if eye needs more wipes, it must be done each time
with a clean swab of ebm dipped cottonwool. Wash hands afterwards.

Kind regards,
Helen Woodman, NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor, UK
