I also happened to catch an old movie recently with a surprise about breastfeeding in it. Rosemary's Baby was on cable and I thought I would watch it to see what all the fuss had been about. Towards the very end when she believes the baby has died an elderly woman comes in with a tray to the bedroom. Lo and behold on the tray is a glass, bulb syringe breastpump for Rosemary! Minutes later, in one of the last scenes, Rosemary finds the baby (Satan's child) in a bassinet and one of the Satanists encourages her to breastfeed, saying that the baby needs her to nurse (instead of pumping and giving a bottle). I thought it was interesting that a movie made back in the(late?) 60's when breastfeeding rates were pretty low that the director felt breastfeeding was important enough to include it in the movie (and for Satan's child!).
