We have been doing performance improvement surveys (new lingo for
quality assurance) on frequency of supplementation. Our supplementation
rates were over 50% at both hospitals where I consult, so we set the
benchmarks at a 25% maximum supplementation rate. I'm sure that is
still way too high, even taking into account true medical indications
and mothers who insist on supplementing for cultural and other reasons.
Does anyone know of standards that have been set by WHO or other such
organizations? Is there any research on the frequency of true medical
indications for supplementation? I would like to have this sort of
documentation when I present the results, which I am sure don't even
come close yet to the benchmarks we have set.
I am NOMAIL, so please e-mail me personally as well as posting to the
list. TIA.
