We had a breastfeeding mom in our hospital a couple of months ago with a
snakebite; her leg was very swollen and she was in a lot of pain. Her doctors
were considering giving her the antivenom but questioned whether it was
compatible with breastfeeding. As it turned out, the woman decided to wean
anyway, but we're still curious about the compatibility -- anyone know? I
searched the archives and found the following statement but wasn't sure
whether it applied to the antivenom too:
<<Snake, scorpion and spider venom are chemical in nature. They would
not likely pass into the mother's milk. They would be mostly filtered
out by the liver.>>
