We have just recently started an NICU support group....thanks to hard work of
one of the staff nurses who happens to be a CLC. Well today at support group
something happened that was just amazing and something that us as health care
professionals could not do........only another mother of a premie.........
Three moms came to the group with their recently discharged premies. One of
the moms at the group today has not been able to hold her baby yet due to
prematurity and instability. Toward the end of the meeting, one of the moms
came up to her and said, "would you like to hold her", as she held up her
little baby. The other mother's eyes got so big, and she nervously held out
her arms and said, "she is so small". At that point the mother with her baby
then said, "when I would come into the nursey, all I wanted to do was hold my
baby". Even though that mom still could not hold her baby yet, this was very
good for her and was an incredibly thing to watch. I get goose bumps just
thinking about it................
