Diane and all..... My experience has been that the amt. of colostrum is
quite variable. Moms who are non-nursing and using a double electric
pump, can get a drop or two up to 15cc. in the first day. Second day,
Mom may collect between 5cc and 20cc. On day 3, I would expect to find
her pumping 10cc-30cc at each pumping. Of course, the variables are
many; including birth experience, which # baby this is for her,
frequency and duration of pumping, baby's condition and parents' fear
factor, etc., etc. Often, if a Mom has a delay between birth and
initiation of pumping, I've noted that the first pumping might be 5
-10cc. I urge Moms not to expect a similar amt. at the next few
pumpings. "Pumping, in the early days, is about stimulation of milk
production, not a contest to see how much we can get", I reassure. I'd
rather a Mom and her suport persons be pleasantly surprised by getting
some, than disappointed by getting none. JMHO :)
