I am doing a Q/I study at my hospital, interviewing bottlefeeding parents
about their choices. One of the questions I ask them is if they have
received any free cases of formula. I asked this because almost all the
parents who come to prenatal breastfeeding class have received cases of it
already by 7 or 8 months of pregnancy. So far, NONE of the bottle feeding
parents has received any "free" formula. Some of them are signed up for
WIC and others are not. I find this very interesting. Another question I
have asked them is, have they priced formula and how much do they feel the
formula will cost them each month. I have yet to find a parent who knows
this information. Some think they will receive it all free though, and do
not realize that the formula which will be free is only part of the milk
that the baby will actually need.
