Hi All,

A mom just returned her pump after weaning her twins at about 2 months. They
were born at about 37 weeks; the boy was doing OK and went home quickly, but
the girl needed heart surgery and just came home a few days ago. The baby
girl's doctors insisted that mom not breastfeed directly but could pump and
feed her milk via bottle so it could be measured. Mom got fed up with the
hassle (didn't call me for help/advice along the way) and stopped BF both.
The girl is now on Neocare (?) which costs about $10 a can, very expensive.
Her brother is on standard formula. Mom breastfed an older child for over a
year.

Now, please enlighten this skeptic. It is REALLY necessary for a baby with a
cardiac condition to have measured intake of breastmilk via bottle, or is
there another way this could have played out? She could have done pre-and
post feed weighs on a sensitive scale, etc.
