I am posting this for a physician who is dealing with a mother at six weeks
postpartum with this rare condition. the two specialists who has seen this
mother both recommend weaning since she has not responded to prednisone and
now want to treat her with methotrexate which is contraindicated with
breastfeeding. The mother is wanting to breastfeed but this condition
causing a major systemic rash is a huge problem for her. The specialists
are saying it is exacerbated by the hormones and stopping breastfeeding
will solve the problem. I have searched the archives and the comments are
that corticosteriods clear this up and that the hormone progestin does
aggravate it. Uusally this condition clears after pregnancy but in this
case it hasn't. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
