I was visiting a friend who just had a baby she is breastfeeding. She
had bloody and brownish discharge from her left nipple during late
pregnancy and none from the right. Postpartum, she had brownish
discharge on Day 1. Day 2 she had pink to red discharge. Mom has a
history of fibrocystic breast disease. Grandmother had breast cancer in
later years. Day 7 no blood in milk from left side. Never had any from
the right side. She can palpate a lump .5 x 1 cm in posterior part of
breast at 6:00. Unable to palpate same lump on right side.
Two questions;
1. To rule out "rusty pipe syndrome" (Shouldn't this be bilateral?)
2. If it is interductal papilloma, would like a consult from pro-breast
feeding surgeon in Indianapolis/St. Louis/Peoria area.
Thanks
Sara
