Hi Anne,
Your rules regarding BF and Hep C in the states are different to the
Oz rules. Ours say it is fine unless cracked or bleeding nipples,
yours Ruth Lawerence told us last week, say only until 6 months
because babies can convert to positive after this point. I raise the
question - to the Oz rule really, why is it not a problem during
teething? In that period, a babies gums are inflammed and can
bleed or at least get blood blisters as the tooth is erupting.
Personally that makes me a little anxious to say it is OK to BF
with Hep C. I do, but I mention that little fact about teething and
the 2 mums I have had with Hep C in the last year, both chose to
wean at teething time. That was 6 months for both anyway.
Just another thing to worry about!
