Hi, Let me introduce myself as i have just subscribed to LACTENET.
My name is Sue, I'm a midwife working on a neonatal ICU in the UK. I amalso
heavily involved with formulating the breastfeeding guidelines for the OB unit
and NICU. We are of course using the 10 steps of the BFI as a guide and, after
a UNICEF visit yesterday. are working towards our Certificate of commitment
and the BF status (we hope).
Are there any neonatal unit nurses or midwives out there in the same position?
Although I am winning them round, I am having some trouble convincing the unit
staff that the NICU can be included in the BF status. Our main problem being
reps and formula feeding. Any one out there who can help. I am hoping o write
a journal articel on the problems and advantages of "baby Friendy" and
breastfeeding in the NICU so all replies will be really helpful.
Many thanks
Sue S
