Show me the research, there are no peer reviewed scientific studies that I
am aware of that support the theory of obese breastfed babies. I have seen
lots of babies above 30 pounds at 9 months to a year. When my oldest was
little, my co-leader had a son the same age, he weighed 36 pounds at 12
months while my tiny little guy weighed 18- 1/2 th weight, now they are 15
and 16 Benjamin is 5'9" and 160 pounds and still growing size 13 1/2 shoes
and Jake is almost 6'and weighs about 120. In my close circle we have about
10 kids who were "obese" at one year >95% on the growth charts, of these
kids, one is a tall, 23 year old bean pole, one is anorexic:( but had
slimmed down by age 3, two are HUGE kids, tall and heavy for their ages and
the rest are all normal sizes and were by 3-5 years. If a baby is allowed to
eat on cue, he will regulate his intake and establish healthy eating habits
for life!
That said, there are pathologies (non-related to breastfeeding) which can
cause a baby to gain too fast, thyroid disorders and glucose disorders may
need to be ruled out. Cathy
