Dear Karen,

There are many more references on cow's milk protein and IDDM. LAst year at
the American Diabetes Association meeting this was a hotly debated issue.
Next week, at the Ponce School of Medicine, Ponce, Puerto Rico, a symposium
will be held to discuss the possiblity of a trial or study comparing a large
population of babies on infant formula vs hydrolysed infant formula vs
breastmilk. For the past several years those researchers interested in this
topic have stressed the importance of doing such a trial. Several
epidimiological studies from different parts of the world have pointed to a
direct relationship with high cow's milk consumption and IDDM. If you would
like further information, I'll be happy to send you the abstracts and of the
summary of the discussion to be held May 14-15, 1998 at the Ponce School of
Medicine.

Sincerely
Elizabeth Barranco, M.D.
