I agree that chiropractic (or DO manipulation) can be very effective for a
clamping baby. Often with intraoral hypertonicity, C1 or C2 is subluxed or out
of adjustment. I worked with one baby who was having problems on only one side
of his mouth, the side to which his atlas was twisted. The hypertonicity
disappeared after each adjustment, gradually improving between but it took
four adjustments before it went away entirely.
CST would have been of help here because the soft tissue releases from the CST
would have made the chiropractic adjustment hold, giving us much faster
results. But alas, I didn't know how to do the CST then. Now, I can deal with
most C1 and C2 problems without having to send them along to the chiropractor,
but occasionally, a bony adjustment is required.
How wonderful it is that we have so many different therapies we can use to
benefit people! Now I wish we could solve the problems by preventing them.
Sigh! One day we'll stop screwing kids up during delivery!
