Lactnetters, Janet in CA who cannot afford ILCA membership. I might get
fired,, I usually don't speak in my capacity as region 4 rep for ILCA. I
would rather lactnet lurk and find herb research. I think you are probably
a very good lactation consultant, and like you I don't make much money
either and yes we in ILCA understand that family comes first. If you get
some spare change, ILCA membership is a bargain compared to some other
professional memberships to which I used to belong. I will be glad to send
you any articles you want from JHL. ILCA also sponsors several small
scholarships to the ILCA conferences to help offset that cost for the
individual with a need. YOu need to fill out an application through your
regional rep or get one from the ILCA office.
As a professional i hope that you at some point would join ILCA, my last
speaking engagement- I have done a few-paid for my membership.
Now to the ILCA affiliates out there. You should show and share your
compassion and your professionalism by sponsoring a deserving consultant or
Lactation exam candidate, by sponsoring him or her for membership and
fundraising to bring her/ him to a conference of her choice or at least
ILCA. Our local affiliate Mid -South Lact. Consultants association has done
this for years. If you want to be sponsored or want to sponsor someone call,
email or write me and I will get your name to ILCA or match you up myself.
For prospective sponsorees You might want to send me a CV and why you have
financial need and what are your goals as a lactation consultant.
To those who say this rep don't work- you need to email or write me I really
want to know what you are doing to share with others- get a chance to get
bragged on. If you have changed leaders or contact persons let me know
asap. Also send responses to ILCA about the proposed changes in the exam.
Lactnet mothers- Kathy and Kathleen excuse me for getting to my constiuents-
but when there is no response I can not help.
Mechell Turner, M.Ed. IBCLC,CCE
Reg. 4 (southeast US) Rep. ILCA
