i just asked the archives for the info available on kangaroo care and it is a
huge amount. here's a quick question. i was just called about a 35.5 week GA
premie weighing 4lbs. 4 oz. born twentyfour hours ago. the father said they
tried kangaroo care but the baby was not warm enough, so baby is back in the
nursery. no other health problems, the baby was born early with C/S because of
PIH. i suggested to the father (that's who called) that he suggest that HE do
kangaroo care, that they bring a warming light/table to the room to use, etc.
the inability to do kangaroo care and the business of the nursery staff mean
that there has been only two attempts at bf, and the second one was
unsuccessful because of no help and a ten minute time limit.
any other ideas to increase the possibility of kangaroo care? what about
warming the room or warming the mother in the bed, etc? please copy to me
privately, the last digest came through completely in black and i couldn't
read it! (anybody want to forward it to me?) give aol an inch!
thanks all,
carol b.
