It was neat to see Diane Weissinger's excited comments about starting up a
milk bank in her community. There is equally exciting news in Austin, where
some of the local neonatologists are spear-heading a drive to create a
Central Texas Milk Bank. It looks as if there will be opportunities for LCs
and interested others all over this area to help publicize and perhaps even
fund raise for the project. One really wonderful note for those of us who
are concerned with promoting our credential, the paid staff positions will
all have written job descriptions which require that the RNs also be IBCLC.
The banked milk will be available to adult cancer treatment patients (and, I
assume, organ transplant recipients) as well as sick infants. As this is a
project dear to my heart, I am feeling especially grateful this morning.
