I have to respectfully disagree that the article by Schanler was good. I
thought it stunk! (er, put more tactfully, I wondered why it is considered
"Nature's" choice.) It is made from cow milk. It is NOT made from human
milk. There are OTHER ways to "fortify/increase fat levels" which have
been used with good results at the same institution where Schanler works.
Do these people not talk with one another?
Human milk fortifier has been found to increase problems for babies, not
least of which is bowel obstruction in premies. It also reduces immune
factors in the human milk in which it is mixed. If my baby were asked to
have it added to my milk, I would refuse until other things (such as
spinning my own milk and concentrating its fats) was tries first and found
not to work. But that's just my opinion....
