I have been working with a client who was pumping and taking herbs for a
couple of months. She does have some milk. Baby was born on Monday, the
30th and went to breast beautifully. On Monday and half of Tuesday baby
was just getting mom's milk, stooling very well and one wet diaper in 24
hours. Mouth wet. Then we began the SNS yesterday afternoon.
I need some help with volume of abm for baby. The first time she took only
about 1/3 ounce. She has steadily increased her intake to about 1 1/3 ounce
each feeding today. She would perhaps take more, but mom lets her finish
at just breast again(she begins at breast each time). Baby is going to
sleep and sleeping for 3 hours, waking herself.
Should mom feed her all that she will take, or will that make her go too
long between feeds and decrease the just-breast time?
Does the diaper count compare to human milk feeding?
Also do abm-fed babies need water?
This mom has worked very hard and is so excited that her baby is taking the
breast so well. We want baby to continue the regular breast stimulation
that the pump was doing--and even better.
What say you who have worked with adoptive mothers?
