Anne,
People with narcolepsy experience normal REM sleep, they just go
suddenly and immediately into REM instead of following the normal
stages. It is unlikely that this would have any impact on the safety of
co-sleeping. People with narcolepsy often have catalexy, a sudden loss
of muscle tone when experiencing strong emotions. This is when mom
might be most vulnerable to dropping baby. Mom can compensate by using
a babysling and sitting or laying on a carpeted floor or large well
cushioned armchair to breastfeed.
