Mary Lou wrote about her MN classmates:
"...You know their perspective - "we wouldn't want to make anyone
feel guilty" and so on. I felt like I was banging my head against a
brick wall as I noted the risks and cost of artificial feeding, and how
breastfeeding empowers women."

How I feel for you! This is just so difficult. I find the whole subject
of breastfeeding promotion so fraught and emotional. Sometimes it seems so
obvious and clear-cut - other times I'm feel I'm in an emotional minefield.
I publish a positive breastfeeding article in the journal I edit and I'm
showered with the most heart-breaking letters from mothers whose
experiences were negative. I know - I know - no reason to stop publishing
the articles - all the more reasons to push on with giving support, working
towards a breastfeeding society etc etc - but let's not lose sight of the
mother at home on her own hurting like mad. How do we reconcile the two?
