Hello all,

I agree that there is no reason to tell a health care professional
(such as the pharmacist in the current scenario) the reason that you
are looking for a particular product in their store. However, the LC
might try the following stress relief process when encountering an
uninformed health care professional - view it as a golden opportunity
to
educate another person who may see the same person that you are
working with so that you can provide the best available care. As far
as asking that pharmacists for references about use of the product on
particular areas of the body - an excellent idea. And of course you
will be able to provide your esteemed references concerning the same
matter from your point of view, correct? Otherwise, are you just
recommending 'from the cuff'. It is not my intention to undermine the
positive work that y'all do but to let you know IMHO that it would be
wise
and helpful to your lactation services world to publish your
information in
peer reviewed journals to enhance your respectability with other
health care professionals. In addition, a health care team will be
providing care for people and it is best to work together rather than
be divisive to help your clients. LCs are an excellent addition to
the health care team and they are well educated about lactation issues
and they may need to rely on other members to provide their expertise
in their own particular area.

Julie
