Several years ago, the policy at the hospital where my friend, a doctor,
attended births was that all babies went to the nursery for a minimum of
four hours. My friend told her patients who didn't want the separation that
they should just politely say "No, I'm keeping the baby with me." Many
people did, and the policy has now been changed. (My friend ultimately faced
some pretty severe repercussions from the hospital, but that's another
story...)
