Hi Judy and listmates,
At our hospital, we do the necessary treatments and assessments on the
mom's abdomen or in her bed. The parents usually want the baby weighed and
measured soon after birth so we bring the scales into the room and do all
the measurements right there at her bedside, always after they've had
their "introduction to the breast" session. Why are you doing vitals every
15 minutes (are you talking mom or baby here)? On a well baby, we do them
first hour times four then go to every four hours in the first 24 hours.
I've been doing a cont. ed. class for about three years now in our state
about how to optimize first feeds. I purchased quite a few slides for
training nurses about optimizing first feeds in the LDR setting from Debi
Bocar in OK City, showing assessments being done on the moms chest versus
underneath a warmer. She has a lot of clinical slides that she has
photographed herself. If you or anyone else need further assistance in
contacting her, please e-mail me privately as I do not have her permission
to put her address and phone number out on the list.
Yes it is always hot and steamy in Louisiana this time of year. But you
have mudbugs and I don't : - (
