Hi friends,
I don't know where I heard it, so I cannot give credit where it is due,
but I tell families that ask about using mom as a pacifier that I am
more worried about babies using a pacifier as a substitute for mom.
Nursing is a multisensory experience, along with food. Sucking on a
pacifier is a solitary experience. Surely you have seen older babies on
pacifiers who sort of "space out" while sucking. And then there is the
increase incidence of ear infections in pacifier babies. Louise Denhez
gave some good suggestions.
