World Breastfeeding Week is coming up soon, August 1-7. I would be
interested if other Lactnetters are involved in organizing activities for
WBW and what they might be. Here in FSM, we have 4 island states, spread
apart by great distances of water. In Chuuk the largest state, there will
be promotion on the radio and tv, an essay competition through the schools,
a training workshop for 25 mothers in a new breastfeeding support group,
and talks by the Dental Division on bottle caries associated with
bottlefeeding, along with the advantages of breastfeeding. In Pohnpei,
there will be banners hung up in the main town, promotion on radio and tv,
and a caravan to the villages with balloons carrying breastfeeding messages
for the people. I am still trying to get the information from the other two
states as to their activities.
Hope to hear about activities in other places,
Lois
