Several times recently the Oct. 1994, Pediatrics, practice parameter has
been referred to. Although the article does say
"The AAP discourages the interruption of breastfeeding in healthy term
newborns and encourages continued and frequent breastfeeding (at least
8 to 10 times every 24 hours)...
It then lists several treatment options including-
"interrupt breastfeeding; substitute formula" and
"interrupt breastfeeding; substitute formula, administer phototherapy"

I usually hear from moms after the breastfeeding has been interrupted and
the babies are having a problem getting back on the breast. One day
though I will likely be involved earlier and I just don't feel that this
article is good ammunition. It is so careful not to tread on anyone's
preconceived beliefs that breastfeeding, even at 2 days, is a cause of
jaundice as to be of little help in fighting this particular battle.

Just my frustrated opinion as I am currently not doing too well in getting
another baby back to the breast (at last check he was totally breastmilk fed)
