All the NSAID's are perfectly compatible with breastfeeding, and Orudis
is too. All of them are extremely highly protein bound, so very little
of the medication gets into the milk. Hale lists the protein binding of
ketoprofen as >99%. Because it also has a relatively short half life
(2-4 hours), it is probably one of the better choices for treating
nursing mothers. According to Hale again, milk levels are 4-5% of
maternal blood levels. This is insignificant.
Not breastfeeding under these circumstances is far riskier than taking
this medication and continuing breastfeeding. I just cannot believe
that even in Australia this sort of thing is going on.
