RE: Tiamterene
I have exhausted all my resources and can come up with no human breastfeeding
data on triamterene, so I have to come in the back door on this one. ASSUMING
that 1-2 percent of the triamterene would get into the breast milk, of a
possible maximum maternal dose of 75 mg of triamterene (in combination with
hydrochlorothaizide) per day, 0.75 mg to 1.5 mg would get into the breastmilk
per day (this is a fairly liberal assumption). The usual oral children's dose
is 2-4 mg/kg/day in one to two divided doses, maximum 6 mg/kg/day and not to
exceed 300 mg/day.
This is the best I can do. This information, along with Dr. Newman's comments
should make for a fairly easy decision for the mother to make. but it will have
to be her decision.
