Short intro- I have been an IBCLC since 1989, in private practice for
six years, and an LLL Leader for sixteen years.

A colleague of mine called with the following situation. Since my
colleague is not currently on LACTNET, I was asked to present this
question to the group.

A four month old baby girl is totally breastfed. The baby is gaining
and growing well. Her mother is on Micronor. A bright red blood spot
has appeared on the anterior of the baby's diaper once a week since
birth. A urinary tract infection has been ruled out. Since the blood
spot appears in the front of the diaper, it is suspected vaginal
bleeding. In the past week, the blood has appeared several times. The
spot is approximately 2 cc. x 4 cc. The question is: Could
breastfeeding in some way be related to the blood in the diaper?

Please email me privately and email the list if you have any thoughts on
this situation. Thank you for all of your collective wisdom!
