Nofia,
The magazine "Em vayeled" (mother and child) indeed has ABM ads in it,
but at least the copy I have (August 1997) has a 10 page breastfeeding
article by Galia Peled that is very good. Much better than other stuff
I've seen in any hospital publication given to mothers in hebrew.
Regarding Israeli HCP's training, requiring all of them to be fluent in
English may not be realistic, especailly considering that many of the
nurses in the hospitals are Russian, some relatively new immigrants
that know just enough hebrew to get by. There is, however, a great need
for good breastfeeding information to be translated into hebrew.
In fact, part of the problem of the image of lactation professionals in
Israel is that we are most, if not all of english speaking origin and
are therefore sometimes viewed as "fanatic Americans". If this field
would be made more accesible to Israelis by having good quality
professional literature in hebrew, it would both improve the level of
knowledge of HCP's as well as help promote the profession of LC's in
Israel.
