This sounds like foremilk/hindmilk imbalance to me. Babies who are not
receiving enough of the hindmilk will often have explosive, acidy BMs that
make the bum sore. They can also have green BMs which indicates an
overproduction of bile (I think--my grasp of this isn't wonderful).
This situation usually arises, in my experience, from mothers who have too
much milk, or who are timing feedings and taking the baby off the first
breast before he/she is finished. I suggest to the mothers with too much
milk to nurse 2-3 times on one breast (3-5 hours, using their judgment if
this seems too long a period), using the second breast only if necessary,
expressing for comfort; then switching and doing the same on the other side.
This, combined with breast compression when the swallowing slows, usually
helps with weight gain, comfort at the breast, etc.and the BMs become less
explosive and acidy. I hear from lots of women with overproduction, few with
underproduction, so am getting lots of experience with this particular
problem.
