Dr. Dosch, one of the authors of the article in the New England
Journal a few years ago on the connection between early introduction
of cow milk protein and IDDM, has written elsewhere that each year's
crop of new diabetics will eventually, over their lifetimes, cost the
health system in Canada $10 billion. Seeing the US has a population
about 10x that of Canada, the equivalent in the US would be $100
billion (okay, Canadian dollars, but that is still $70 billion US). I
cannot remember where he wrote that, but he can be reached at the
Hospital for Sick Children, Dept. of Endocrinology, 555 University
Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M5G 1X8.
