I posted several months ago about a woman who was pregnant with her second
child and hoping for breastfeeding success this time, after getting bad
advice the first time and being falsely diagnosed as having insufficient
milk syndrome. Her son arrived via C-section on May 4, and her milk just
came in (10 days postpartum). She expressed colostrum in the hospital and
syringe-fed him, then started the SNS (goat's milk, not formula, as her
daughter was allergic to both soy and cow's milk formulas) at 5 days
postpartum at the advice of the LC and pediatrician. He has not had a single
artificial nipple; however, his suck is weaker and he doesn't latch on as
well with the SNS because it lets him be lazy.
She wants to move from the SNS to exclusive BF and is wondering how. To make
the transition, is it best to just stop the SNS and BF only, or should she
gradually reduce the SNS sessions over a period of time?
TIA,
