Baby-Friendly USA is happy to announce the designation of the twelfth US
Baby-Friendly birth facility: St. John's Hospital in Springfield Illinois.
Women give birth to 2000 babies annually at St. John's, a 750 bed hospital
with 45 NICU beds and 12 intermediate beds. St. John's is the high risk
referral center for 35 counties. Staff tell us that it took 5 years to
implement nine of the Ten Steps, and an additional year to change policy
and procedure to purchase formula and feeding supplies.
Hats off to St. John's Hospital for this wonderful achievement! The US now
has a total of 12 Baby-Friendly birth facilities.
Congratulations again to the previously designated US Baby-Friendly
facilities: Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, Lebanon, NH; Cottage Grove
Healthcare Community, Cottage Grove, OR; Evergreen Hospital, Kirkland, WA;
Franciscan Hospital, Mount Airy Campus, Cincinnati, OH; Goleta Valley
