I too have very large children - and was told to wean and have growth hormone
labs drawn on my second.

My first son was breastfed full time till 6mos, then food introduced. He
continued to BF until 14 mos when he weaned himself. His one year weight was
26-7. His two year check weight 31lbs. He did slim down quite a bit after
weaning.

My second son also breastfed full time till 6mos, then food was introduced per
his
request. At 2 1/2 he continues to nurse. His one year check was 30-4, his
15mos
weight 34-7lbs, his 18mos check 37-8lbs, his two yr check 44-0 lbs. We too
were
told at his 15, 18 mos and 2yr check that he needed to wean because he was too
large and that we should consider having labs run. We were told that if we
wanted to
continue to BF that we should cut out all other sources of fat in his diet -
ie skim
milk, no nuts, peanut butter etc.. I too began to question my parenting , but
with
the support of my husband we kept doing what we believed felt right. He too
was active and happy and developmentally normal. So we refused labs.
At 2 1/2 he nurses about twice a day - some nights more than others (co-
sleeping)
and his weight has leveled off. In fact he has not gained any weight in the
last 6mos
which is amazing to us. He has changed his own eating intake according to his
needs. I guess we will never know whether or not his "growth hormone" was
elevated.
But I didn't see him as a chubby junk food baby, but as a healthy, well
nourished and
happy BF toddler.

I think the mom in the LLL group should trust her instincts and give her
toddler more
time to grow up before she listens to any ill advice to wean.
