JParkes (Joy) asked:
> When *did* the US accept the WHO code?
"Accept" is a slippery word here. In May 1994, the U.S. finally joined the
rest of the world in casting its vote for the WHO Code on the marketing of
breast milk substitutes at a WHO assembly. However, the Code has no force of
law in the U.S. unless and until the U.S. Congress enacts, and the U.S.
president signs, a law to that effect. So, for now, the U.S. is on record in
a WHO document as supporting the idea of regulating the marketing of breast
milk substitutes, but has done nothing to make that happen here.
