I'm so excited I can't see straight. I gave my wish list to the community
education coordinator of the hospital where I teach breastfeeding classes
and she said Ok to several of my suggestions. Now I need to submit formal
proposals. Here is what I need help with.
1) a once a week breastfeeding clinic. Is any one doing a clinic on such a
part time basis. I'm going to have extra hours set aside to do calls after
discharge from floor and follow up calls after they are seen in the clinic.
Has anyone already invented the wheel on this one? I'd appreciate any
input. This is a small hospital but the only one in the county, with
basically no formal lactation services so this is a big step forward. It
appears I would be supplying my own scale and gagets, hospital would pay me
to rent my scale. Not sure who will pay if nipple shields or other aids
are needed. Any ideas? I'd appreciate suggestions or proposals used by
other hospitals. This would be no charge to the patients but I am really
pushing the hospital to bill for insurance.
2) A hospital sponsored support group. There is a well functioning LLL
chapter in the county so this would be an independant group. I envision
day meetings and night meetings( maybe even a seperate group for working
nursing moms) at various locations through out the county. Does anyone
have formal guidelines for a hospital based group?
3)Hospital sponsored Inservices for day care providers. The first one will
be on collection and storage, handling of breastmilk, differences between
breast and formula babies etc.. Any other topic ideas?
Sorry if this seemed to ramble on, I'm still really in shock. I want to
put together some sound proposals to assure this gets going soon but also
the right way. I'm in uncharted territory here.
Thanks in Advance
