Beverly, this mother is almost certainly experiencing nipple vasospasm. A
summary of the diagnosis and management of this condition can be found on
the Australian divisions of General Practice web page at
http://www.gp.org.au/cls/raynaud.html
The intermittent fever and chills are of some concern and make me wonder
whether she may have an untreated bacterial infection such as a small
abscess. Does she have any palpable masses in her breast?
It may be worthwhile doing an ultrasound of her breasts to exclude this as
a possibility.
