Help me answer a mom-to-be..........Maria had a breast reduction at age
18. (that was 15 years ago) The surgery was extensive and the nipples were
removed and replaced during the surgery. Maria is interested in BF, but knows
her chances of supplying a complete milk supply for baby due in the summer are
slim. Her question, is there any reason to even try to BF? If any mothers
milk is produced, she will still have to suppliment with ABM, so what are the
benefits? She is a loving, very affectionate woman and I don't feel the skin-
to-skin contact will suffer without benefit of BF.......so why should she go
through the motions at all when the chances of success are slight? BTW, if
she decides to BF, should she use the SNS(?) system and offer ABM at the
breast? Should she allow baby to suckle at "naked" breast first and then add
the feeder? Would baby just get frustrated if no milk is immediately
available? I need some practical help so she doesn't get lost.
