Hi Christine,
I would encourage this mom to see an LC. I have seen many older
babies/toddlers who needed a bit of work on their suck after not being
problematic as infants. One key at this age is to encourage the baby to
open her mouth wide so the upper teeth are at an angle to the breast
skin, rather than biting straight down. Also a deep attachment to the
breast allows the tongue to do more of the work, and the jaws less,
which cuts down on pressure from the upper teeth.
