I am currently revising the breastmilk collection procedure at the
Medical Center where I am based. We have a sizable NICU and
conservative Neonatologists so I need to know how comparable
institutions handle this as case examples. Specific questions I have
are these? Do you use disposable kits or wash kits between uses while
mother is still an inpatient? Therfore, is milk collection handled as a
"sterile procedure"? How are mothers instructed to care for their kits
at home when they have a baby in the NICU? Is anyone doing milk
cultures for hospitalized infants, when, why?
I have done a lit search, I have information from HMBANA, I need example
hospitals.
You can e-mail me privately at: [log in to unmask] or FAX me your
policy/procedure at 207-871-6113.
Thanks for your attention on this from iced in disaster area Maine,
where I feel lucky to be back to work.
