Dear lactnetters,
I have a friend who wants me to ask your collective advice on this one.....her
now 5 year old child plays with a friends baby who is about a year and still
nursing. The 5 year old is now asking her mother to nurse. She weaned at
about 15 months. My friend is quite open, has explained nursing to her, been
very loving as the little girl wanted the closeness as much as anything.
She's nursed a few times and now seems quite taken with it. Her mother
doesn't want to keep this up, but does not want the little girl to come away
feeling rejected. She's tried the usual reasoning with her, distraction etc.
I suggested substituting another close cuddly activity such as reading
something special or a massage, a tincture of time and not being afraid to be
a little firm. What do you think?
