For those of us who've been advocating pain relief for baby boys undergoing
circs so quickly after birth, there is an excellent article in the Dec. 24/31
issue of JAMA advocating that all males undergoing circumcision should receive
anesthetics. In the article, it states the researchers cut the enrollment for
the project short due to the ethical issue of not causing any further pain for
newborns. Perhaps, after a few years, we will see less feeding problems from
newborn males, newly circ'd, who can't/won't breastfeed secondary to pain.
